Happy National Mutt Day❣

Maddie & Shadow ~ Two of the best MUTTS of all time ❣ (Shadow crossed Rainbow 🌈 Bridge on September 13, 2006.)
On Day #455, my wonderful mutt, Maddie & I still think it’s AMAZING out here❣

Maddie recently had her 1st veterinarian appointment in over a year. Other than some mild stiffness, she’s doing great! The only really significant change is that her selective hearing is no longer selective. 🥺 Her ears look very healthy, but she’s lost most of her hearing. I’m considering it to be a blessing for her because thunder & fireworks no longer affect her as much. She’s also not on HIGH ALERT to every sound, so she’s more relaxed now. 🤗

She’ll be 15 in November, so she’s definitely earned her relaxation. 💝

On May 2, 2021, I departed from Massachusetts in my 2017 Ford Edge (Breezy Blue) with my 13.5 year young pup, Maddie, to fulfill a lifelong dream of a road trip across America. Our departure was delayed by a month, but we're making up for lost time now! My goal is to be out and about for a year.

    1. Thanks, Don! 🤗
When I was adopting Maddie from the humane society on Prince Edward Island in Canada, I asked them every question I could think of about her, except for one. I forgot to ask if she liked to ride in the car. 🙄 When I met her at the shelter, I asked my question & they weren’t sure of the answer. Luckily for both of us, she LOVES to ride in the car! I knew it was risky taking her on a cross-country roadtrip, but I’m so grateful that I took the leap of faith! She was AMAZING & proved over & over again that you definitely can teach an old dog new tricks. She taught me lots of them! 😉

  1. Hi Wendy! We are in South Dakota at Thompson Lake recreation Area visiting our friends Sharon and Warren who we met in Silver City and wintered with in Sierra Vista. I will text you a picture of this massive (largest) natural freshwater lake in SD. They are campground hosts here for the summer. True to form we have 2 days of gale force winds, and now today ( after all the weekend campers left, and there were many!!) it is flat beautiful water. Wish I had my kayak!! We first visited my cousins in Sioux Falls and moochdocked in their driveway. We got to see a cousin I did not get to see last fall and it was wonderful! We had so much fun catching up again. We stayed with them when we first got on the road. We are here until August 9th, and then head to Colorado for a wedding reception for Tim’s nephew. It will be a Gormley Family reunion of sorts and I am so excited!! I hope to see my other cousin who lives in the Denver area too. we are headed south to see my 85 year old birding friend Jan who lives in Canyon City for a few days. Hope to explore that area (Royal Gorge..)and then not sure where we will be. We need to be back in MN for my infusion the 3rd week of September and then my nephew’s wedding October 7th. Back to AZ for Solar install in Quartzite 10-24. Today we are planning our winter travels and may be in FL. Where will you winter? Your ears must be twitching as we talk about our friend Wendy and her beautiful companion Maddie wherever we go! Isn’t fate a wondrous thing? We would never have met if it were not for your intrepid attitude coming over to join the conversation in NM!! Miss you dear lady! Love, Jane, Tim, and Sophie the wonder dog!
