National Dog Day! πŸ’

August 26, 2021 – Illinois

Today is National Dog Day & I can’t let it pass, without acknowledging & honoring Maddie❣

I adopted Maddie from the PEI (Prince Edward Island, Canada) Humane Society on September 12, 2009. She was 22 months old.

πŸ’ Adoption Weekend – September 2009 πŸ’

Today, we’re 1130 miles away from home & having the best time of our lives! She has been AMAZING on this trip, way beyond my highest hopes. Every decision I’m making is based on what’s best for her. She’s doing so well that I have to constantly remind myself that she’s almost 14! She’s “forcing” me to slow down, relax & live in the moment.

Today, we’re heading off to explore the area, It’s going to be another scorcher here, with a Real Feel temperature of over 105Β°. 😳 We’ve experienced SEVERE thunderstorms the past 2 nights, so we’re exhausted. πŸ₯± It’s really not fun to be in a tent while the world feels like it’s crashing in around you! The storms move in very quickly here, without any warning, so I haven’t been able to get us into the car safely before it’s too late. πŸ₯΄

I’ve been running the car AC for an hour or two each day for us to cool down. Today we’ll just ride around & enjoy the views in air conditioned comfort. There is definitely ice cream in our future!

❀ Maddie through the years! ❀
πŸ’— Just a few of her MANY photos from our trip. πŸ’—
Maddie has 2 beds.
She almost always chooses the rocks AND the hard place!

Stay cool! Stay safe!

Enjoy your day!

And make sure you hug your dog!

❣ Maddie & I are celebrating both today! ❣

On May 2, 2021, I departed from Massachusetts in my 2017 Ford Edge (Breezy Blue) with my 13.5 year young pup, Maddie, to fulfill a lifelong dream of a road trip across America. Our departure was delayed by a month, but we're making up for lost time now! My goal is to be out and about for a year.

    1. Woof 🐾❣🐾
Valerie, Maddie has far exceeded my hopes for her as my travel buddy. I knew she’d be good company, but her willingness and ability to adapt to these ever-changing situations and surroundings has been truly amazing. She’s the poster pup for why it’s worth taking a chance on a shelter dog… ❀

    1. You’re absolutely right! 😁 Sadly, severe thunderstorms & the risk of flash flooding prevented us from getting our ice cream today. We’ll make up for it tomorrow!

    1. Hi Tigger! You found me! Welcome! 😊 Thank you for keeping watch over for us during our stay at the campground. Those thunderstorms were really scary, but it was comforting to know that Maddie & I had a safe haven, if necessary.
I’ve made note of the campground you suggested, too. I appreciate it.
Thanks again for your encouragement & well wishes!
      Hugs, Wendy & Maddie

    1. Maddie & I have definitely been a great team, always❣ When I was adopting her from the humane society in PEI, Canada, I asked as many questions as possible. The ONE thing I forgot to ask was if she liked to ride in the car! Thank goodness the answer was yes because we were about to travel 600+ miles home! Look at us now! 293 days & 12,000+ miles later & loving every minute of it.
